Already have your NIF? This is what's next.

Open a Portuguese bank account, entirely from home.

A licensed team opens your account at a real Portuguese bank on your behalf, solo or joint, so you get a working IBAN without ever needing to be in the country.

Before you start

Four things to have ready.

Passport or EU ID

Full page, clearly legible.

Proof of address

Issued outside Portugal, less than 3 months old.

Your Portuguese NIF

Every Portuguese bank requires it before anything else.

Proof of income or activity

A payslip, pension statement, business/incorporation documents, or recent bank statement, depending on your situation.

How it works

Three steps, no branch visit.

  1. STEP 1
    Pay the flat fee

One flat €199 fee per account. Solo or joint, decide once you're in, it's the same price either way.

  2. STEP 2
    Send your file, sign once

Upload the items above, then sign the power of attorney we generate for you, no printer trip to a notary.

  3. STEP 3
    We deal with the bank

We submit the file and follow it through. Your IBAN and online banking access land on your dashboard the day it clears.

Pricing

One fee, whichever way you apply.

199

solo or joint, same price

A joint account costs the same as a solo one, it's one account either way.

Where this matters

A local IBAN unlocks the next form, not just the account itself.

Most applicants aren't opening an account for its own sake, it's a line item on somebody else's checklist: a visa office, a landlord, a notary. Having it ready in advance, from a bank those offices already recognize, avoids a second round trip later.

  • Proof of funds for a D7, D8, or Golden Visa file
  • A landlord who wants rent paid from a Portuguese account
  • Getting paid locally, or invoicing local clients
  • A property deposit and completion payment

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which bank do you actually use?+

Primarily Novo Banco, through a direct partnership. On the rare file Novo Banco can’t take on, we open the account with another traditional Portuguese bank instead (currently Millennium bcp), either way, it’s a real Portuguese bank account, opened at a physical branch.

What if I don’t have a NIF yet?+

Get that first, no Portuguese bank will proceed without one. Our sister service, NIF Online, handles it remotely the same way this does.

Do I need to show up in Portugal at any point?+

No. You sign a power of attorney authorizing our licensed team to act at the branch on your behalf. Portuguese law exempts this kind of mandate from notarization, so there’s no apostille step either.

How is a joint account different?+

One order, two people. Both of you upload your own documents and both sign the power of attorney, but it’s a single account with both names on it, not two separate accounts.

What’s the actual timeline?+

Once we have your signed mandate and complete file, Novo Banco typically takes 2-6 weeks to process the request. It varies by nationality (compliance checks aren’t uniform) and we don’t control the bank’s queue, so treat this as a working estimate, not a promise.

How do I actually receive the account details?+

On your dashboard only, once the account is confirmed, your IBAN and online banking access are never sent by email.

Is there a minimum deposit to open the account?+

Yes, a €250 initial deposit is required, which must stay in the account to keep it active.

Can I use the account to receive a salary, or send and receive international transfers?+

Yes. It’s a full Portuguese bank account, salary payments, local transfers, and international transfers all work normally.

Is there an app or online banking to manage the account?+

Yes, you get access to the bank’s app and online banking to manage your account day to day.
